As a Charge Nurse you will be working within a transdisciplinary team that includes a range of professionals.

The successful candidate will be offered an excellent competitive salary of £ 40,000 per annum plus other great benefits and will be working a full time.

Our Charge Nurse role involves:

  • Accepting 24 hour responsibility for the hospital on a rotational basis, within the framework of the Senior Nurse on Call structure
  • Deputising for the line manager as directed
  • Managing finances within an allocated budget and providing written budget performance reports upon request
  • Ensuring the objectives of the Senior Management Team and the nursing department are reflected in the objectives for each service via annual reports and business plans, service operational report
  • Producing philosophies of care and local procedures in association with other members of the clinical team
  • Monitoring the performance and conduct of staff and taking corrective action when necessary including, where appropriate, involvement in the disciplinary process
  • Demonstrating the awareness of different styles of management and the ability to be flexible
  • Promoting clinical governance, ensuring that the hospital strategy is cascaded at ward level

To be successful as a Charge Nurse, you’ll need:

 

First level registered nurse in the field of mental health or learning disability (RMN or RNMH).

 

SVQ level 4 Management or equivalent (desirable)

Skills/Knowledge

  • Up-to-date knowledge of the assessment and treatment of people with mental illness, personality disorder or a learning disability who present with challenging behaviour
  • Awareness of the CPA process
  • An understanding of nursing risk assessments
  • Ability to reflect on practice and cascade this approach via role modelling
  • Ability to maintain professional distance with patients and junior staff
