Business Improvement District Manager

A unique opportunity has arisen for a Business Improvement District Manager to work for Successful Sutton who are an independent, non-profit organisation led and funded by businesses to make Sutton town centre a better place to live, work, shop and do business.

Each year, they invest money in activities and services to promote Sutton town centre and improve the local trading environment.

This role offers amazing scope for an individual looking to help achieve a greater variety of services and activities within Sutton town centre by raising the town centre’s profile through marketing and events, delivering value for money for business levy payers, increasing footfall and spend in the town centre and ensuring the town centre remains a safe and secure environment for its businesses and visitors.

A key part of this role will be to work with the Board in delivering a visionary strategic business plan to guide the Successful Sutton BID.

Main duties include:


  • Manage and monitor all external revenue generating projects
  • Progressing a programme of events to make the town centre an attractive and safe place to live, work and visit
  • Responsible for the financial management of the BID including audits and production of year end accounts
  • Increasing the interests of levy payers and contribute to creating conditions attractive for businesses in the area
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to a range of local priorities
  • Securing funding from private and public sectors for special or local interest projects
  • Partnering with the local media to promote the work of the BID and the events being held
  • Preparing comprehensive budgets
  • Developing policy proposals for the Board for discussion
  • Oversee all day to day operations as well as manage the Business Centre, HR and IT functions

Experience and skills required:


  • Degree or equivalent in Business or similar
  • Previous experience as a CEO/Executive Director of a small/medium business
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to delegate responsibility and empower their team
  • Strategic vision with the ability to develop new ideas and ways of working
  • Good working knowledge of the economic factors that affect a town centre
  • Strong PR and presentation skills including public speaking
  • Knowledge of Sutton and its business environments would be an advantage
