Café Manager

Successful company in the North Lakes area are looking to appoint Café Operations Manager who will be responsible and accountable for overseeing the efficient running and profitability of the café operations and for managing employees.

The Role

  • Take responsibility for the business performance and quality of food and drink
  • Analyse and plan sales levels and profitability
  • Carry out monthly stocktakes and achieve at least a 30% food cost of sales/70% gross profit
  • Achieve a staff cost as proportion of sales of 35% or better and /or a combined food and labour cost of 65% or better
  • Have a strong ‘lead from the front’ presence
  • Have strong business acumen including an understanding of P&L’s and maintain statistical and financial records
  • Set budgets and agree them with management
  • Undertake thorough management of the EPOS equipment and provide accounting data
  • Make improvements to the running and development of the business
  • Run the business with autonomy and report quarterly to managers
  • Create a marketing strategy to promote the business locally and nationally and organise marketing activities such as promotional events, on-line presence and off-peak business encouragement schemes
  • Be active in the use of social media with daily/weekly updates of platforms such as Facebook and Instagram and respond to Trip Advisor reviews
  • Achieve at least a four (out of 5) TripAdvisor overall ranking with a minimum 95% Average/Very Good/Excellent review rankings
  • Prepare reports at the end of the week including staff control, food control, covers/transactions and sales
  • Create and execute plans for sales, profit and staff development
  • Plan and coordinate menus
  • Have a strong knowledge of quality food and beverages
  • Coordinate the operation of the cafe during scheduled shifts
  • Recruit, train, manage and motivate staff and produce staff rotas
  • Manage any system of tips in a transparent and fair manner and comply fully with PAYE and HMRC guidelines
  • Respond to customer queries and complaints
  • Ensuring compliance with licensing, hygiene and health and safety legislation/ guidelines/ operations and specifically a 5-star Food Hygiene Scheme rating
  • Oversee stock levels, order supplies and prepare cash drawers and petty cash

The Person

  • Interest, knowledge and experience in café/restaurant operations and quality food
  • Excellent customer service, diplomacy and teamwork skills
  • Being commercially aware for achieving success performance
  • Flexibility
  • Good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to cope under pressure
  • Having a proven track record of managing business costs
  • Having strong written and oral communication skills for managing business administration and staffing matters
  • The ability to work independently and confidently to make your own decisions
  • Due to location, own transport is essential
  • Should already have the legal right to work in the UK / EU

The Offer
