We are looking for a Material Scientist with experience of ELM, handling large data sets, working in or with a range of external stakeholders such as scientific experts and academic institutions, applying scientific evidence to policy & in one or more of the following areas: environmental land management, soil health, sustainable crop production, data analysis.

Responsibilities



* Work to shape a monitoring and evaluation framework for ELM while overseeing and advising on the existing/future agri-environment monitoring and evaluation programme.


* Evaluating lessons learnt from previous/current schemes to ensure past experiences are considered in the development of ELM.


* Collating evidence to support policy decisions including: what outcomes ELM should deliver, the link between outcomes and interventions and how outcomes should be measured.


* Collating evidence on the current status of outcomes to be delivered in ELM in order to create a benchmark in which future success can be measured.


* Scoping and assessing different tools and technologies to contribute to the delivery and design of ELM.


* Collating and commissioning research as well as scoping and horizon scanning to identify emerging fields which may impact the wider ELM team.


* Input into an evidence framework strategy to ensure a consistent and accountable approach to evidence collection.


* Peer reviewing evidence statements and reports.

Ideally you will have:



* Experience of planning and managing own workload and balancing competing priorities.


* Experience of leading complex projects.


* Experience of handling large data sets.


* Experience in one or more of the following areas: environmental land management, soil health, sustainable crop production, data analysis.


* Experience in working in or with a range of external stakeholders such as scientific experts and academic institutions.


* Experience applying scientific evidence to policy.


* Excellent analytical skills and the ability to identify data trends, draw out key messages and critique evidence sources.


* The ability to proactively produce high-quality and evidence-based analysis and to communicate the findings to a range of audiences, including non-specialists, often to tight timescales.


* Ability to develop strong working relationships across interdisciplinary evidence teams with policy professionals.


* Capability to work on own initiative whilst ensuring colleagues are informed when necessary.

Qualifications and experience



* A post graduate qualification or equivalent experience in a related scientific subject (biology, environmental science, plant science).

As well as the specific experience required above you will have the necessary qualifications, skills & experience of a Material Scientist to take control of this requirement from its inception to its completion.
