Our client is an organisation that is currently at the back end of a massive transformation.

In the last 18 months they have recruited a new board of trustees and a new operations team.

They are now in a position where they have consolidated the organisation and are looking at entering a new phase of growth.

Their vision is to provide high quality support to people and transform lives, but they can only achieve this through having strong and robust processes and dedicated people that are aligned to their vision.

About the Role

Our client is looking for an inspirational CEO that will drive and lead the organisation forward.

From enhancing their processes and developing people through to working with regulators to ensure the organisation is fully compliant.

They are a small organisation with a long-term strategy that will create value for their beneficiaries. 

Job Purpose:


  • Accountable to the Board for the leadership and agreed overall direction of the organisation
  • Responsible for the organisation’s effective financial and operational performance, maximising use of assets and supporting growth
  • Working within agreed values and strategies to deliver quality services to their own tenants and those they manage on behalf of others
  • Empowering and encouraging staff to deliver an excellent service resulting in high levels of tenant satisfaction and meeting agreed standards of ethical behaviour
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements within a strong governance framework

Key Responsibilities:

Governance and accountability:


  • Proactive approach to governance, safeguarding and other legal responsibilities
  • Attend and participate in meeting of the Board and committees and ensure that they are adequately serviced

Leading People:


  • Lead by example, empowering and developing staff to fulfil their potential, creating a culture that motivates and supports staff to deliver high levels of performance, celebrating success and tackling performance issues as appropriate
  • Champion a culture of learning and accountability so that staff are enthused about their contributions and can see their impact and value

Leading the Business:


  • Lead and develop effective external networks, especially with the regulator, local authorities, funding institutions and key stakeholders that will add value to the business and to be able to influence sector debate and thought
  • Ensure the organisation has the relevant up to date policies in place with a schedule for reviewing
  • To collaborate with external agencies and organisations to deliver the wider strategic objectives

Operational Performance:


  • Promote meaningful engagement with tenants, ensuring that their voice is heard and is influential, while maintaining positive and productive relationships with tenant groups
  • Establish high standards for housing management, support services and asset management
  • Ensure that new business development opportunities are identified, investigated and reported to the Board.

    Deliver new initiatives in line with the values and ethos of the organisation
  • Ensure robust systems are in place for the collection and scrutiny of performance information, with regular and appropriate reporting to Board

Compliance and Control:


  • Lead on regulatory and legislative compliance, so that decisions are taken at all levels within a robust risk assessment framework
  • Ensure an appropriate control and assurance framework is in place to meet statutory, regulatory and financial requirements in order to manage risks to the business, including internal and external audit on the building, health and safety, safeguarding and data protection
  • Support the Board in the setting of high standards of probity and develop an open and honest culture in line with the values and ethos of Expectations UK

Person Specification:

Qualifications and Knowledge:


  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent work experience
  • An understanding of regulatory and policy issues which impact on social housing providers
  • Knowledge of business planning and risk assessment
  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly gain an understanding of the local area and the factors influencing operations

Experience:


  • A senior track record in social housing or related sector
  • Proven experience of working with a Board at a senior level
  • Experience of successfully leading and managing people, developing successful and cohesive teams
  • Experience of management at a strategic level, including the management of budgets and interpretation of business information, bringing acumen and insight to the role
  • A track record of successfully delivering continuous improvement in service delivery, with high levels of tenant satisfaction

Skills and Abilities:


  • A motivational leader, who inspires service excellence
  • A high level of interpersonal, communication, influencing, negotiating and political skills
  • Able to work intuitively with a wide range of stakeholders, maintaining effective partnership and stakeholder relationships
  • Able to work flexibly and proactively as part of a small staff team and to understand the nuances of working for a niche service provider
  • Able to assess risk and promote risk awareness without being risk averse
  • Able to translate strategy into short, medium and long-term plans
  • Ability to identify, explore and initiate new business opportunities
