About the Company

Cetix is a well-established small  privately owned company.  2019 was a successful year delivering further growth, and we have ‘ridden the storm’ of 2020 rather better than our competitors.  We have some 30 engineering employees providing computer-based control system services for our blue-chip customers.  Usually we have all worked from our comfortable offices, in a laid-back atmosphere – at present we are successfully fully operating with most personnel working from home.

We believe firmly that our simple management structure allows us to be highly responsive and flexible to risks, opportunities and customer needs.

Our business is all about providing high quality engineering services to our customers.  You will have some appreciation of the accounting practices applicable to a professional services company.

About the Role

Our recently built core management team is looking for a new key member, reporting to directly to the Managing Director.

We are looking for someone to manage all of our financial functions, as well as contribute to general business strategy and improvement.

If you have good ideas, then we want to hear them and make them happen.

You may currently be reporting to a finance manager or director and feel ready to step up.

You may have ambitions to become a Financial Director in the future, and looking for the ideal role to provide relevant experience.  We are ready to reward someone who can not only carry out some hands-on work, but is also ready to act as a manager and provide financial insights to the management team.  We have no-one to kid!  Our accounts need to be an honest and correct reflection of our costs and progress; we want you to ensure that we continue to have a realistic picture of our financial position, and comply fully with all tax and accounting standards.

You will have experience of handling payroll and producing management accounts and cash-flow forecasts, which will need hands-on input from you (using Sage 50 accounts, Sage cloud payroll and Microsoft Excel).  You will manage our fairly straightforward accruals and prepayments.  You will have experience of expenses, sales invoicing, purchasing, and other transactions and ledger matters for which you will have oversight; daily data entry and reconciliation is carried out by our accounts clerks who will report to you.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities we will entrust to you include:


  • Participate positively in Management Team meetings
  • Take a part in business improvements, perhaps in IT systems, supply chain management, project monitoring or data analysis – or other areas where you have an interest or aptitude
  • Assist the Managing Director with annual Budgeting and forecasting
  • Running the accounts department
  • Monitoring of day to day financial operations
  • Preparation of accurate monthly financial accounts - balance sheet, P&L and cashflow statement
  • Quarterly VAT
  • Review of current financial systems and manage changes to improve quality and efficiency of processes
  • Act as a signatory for bank transactions
  • Ensuring that the company is able to meet all statutory financial obligations

Key Profile:

Characteristics the successful Finance Manager will possess:


  • Commercial awareness and intelligence to rapidly comprehend the nature of the business, and its priorities
  • A problem-solving mind with an aptitude for fresh analysis to 
  • Qualified or part qualified to an appropriate professional accounting qualification
  • Experience – or proven ability to get up to speed quickly – in relevant Sage products
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills – and a recognition of the weaknesses and pitfalls of that tool
  • Accustomed to respect and protect confidential information.
  • Ability to work effectively with external providers (such as bank, insurers, pension, auditors)
  • Track record of managing change and improvement in accounting systems
  • Pride in accuracy, record-keeping and traceability, attention to detail and integrity
  • Someone who can communicate effectively with non-accounting personnel
  • good written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise effectively
  • Ability to work independently – but seek internal or external advice when needed
  • Appropriate experience

Salary, Benefits & Other details:



  • Salary: Open;  £30k-£45k dependent on experience and qualifications
  • Benefits: Good pension, medical, DIS and other benefits
  • Job Type: Permanent position, Full-time 37 ¼ hour/week; OR Open to flexible or part-time applicants – minimum perhaps 25 hours per week
  • Location: South Yorkshire (10 minutes from M1 or M18)
