Warehouse Operative - Forklift


An opportunity within an expanding small business to become involved in all aspects of the warehouse.

Picking and packing

· Picking and packing a variety of customer orders on a daily basis, including a mixture of parcels and
palletised orders.
· Duties include interpreting picking tickets and delivery orders correctly and careful packing to avoid damage in transit.

Parcel orders

· Parcels include aluminium greenhouses with polycarbonate glazing, smaller metal sheds, metal gazebos, garden furniture, shelving and smaller accessories.
· Subject to satisfactory product knowledge, duties will also include picking and packing replacement parts to resolve customer complaints.

Palletised orders

· Palletised products include log cabins, wooden gazebos, larger metal sheds and crates of greenhouse glass.
· Associated accessories include roofing felt, cedar shingles, roof insulation and floor insulation.

Fork lift work

· Loading and unloading lorries on a daily basis.
· Regular clearing of empty stillages to optimize warehouse storage.

Machinery, equipment and materials used

· Machinery used includes 2 counterbalance lift trucks, a 2.5 tonne Still and a 1.5 tonne Still, plus a narrow Genie scissor lift with 19ft reach.
· Equipment used includes a semi-automatic strapping machine, manual strapping machines, pallet trucks, stepladders and a manual propane gas heat shrink gun.
· Packing materials used include cardboard, pallet wrap, parcel tape, shrink film and strapping.

Other duties

· The assembly of display buildings, sample products and prototypes is required occasionally.
· Recycling and repackaging of damaged or returned products is also required occasionally.
· Administrative duties include data input, updating customer records and updating automatically generated picking lists.
· Occasional re-ordering of packaging materials may also be required.


· Training will be provided to ensure safe use of all machinery and equipment.
· Certificated training in manual handling will be provided at the outset.
· Certificated training for counterbalance lift trucks and the scissor lift will also be provided.


· Physical fitness – many of our client’s products are heavy
· Experience of counterbalance lift trucks and scissor lifts
· Good literacy, numeracy and computer skills

Previous experience

· Experience of working in a warehouse or workshop
