Internal Communications Manager

Job Title: Internal Communications Manager
Salary range: £40,461-£45,536 per annum
Hours: 36.5 hours per week
Contract: Permanent

In these uncertain times developing and delivering great internal communications has never been more important - which is why we've created a new strategic internal communications role to sit at the heart of our organisation.

During the past year we've found new ways of connecting with our staff through weekly webinars, innovative engagement sessions and regular updates using all our communications channels.

Now, as we look ahead to leading the region's economic recovery after Covid, the forthcoming Mayoral elections, and an ongoing change programme, we want to make sure internal communications is strategic, influencing the way we work across the organisation and developing innovative ways to keep connected with our people.

We are passionate about the importance of good two way internal communications and want our staff to be engaged and positive about our organisation and all we do.

We want to build on the strong foundations of good internal communications channels and tools that have been so important over the past year to make our good internal communications great.

About the role

You will be based at the heart of the organisation in the Chief Executive's Office but will work corporately and closely with our communications team and other teams across the organisation.

You will be responsible for developing our new internal communications and engagement strategy and our intranet, leading on internal communications campaigns, delivering content for our regular updates and briefings for staff and evaluating the impact of internal communications.

Who we need

We are looking for someone with strong experience in delivering good internal communications in a complex organisation and who understands the importance of robust strategies, forward planning and effective engagement tools.

You will need to be creative, innovative and hands on - this is a role that blends high level strategic skills with the need to crack on and get things done quickly.

You will need the ability to advise, influence, and co-ordinate.

About the team

The Chief Executive's Office is a small team that provides programme management and administrative support to the Chief Executive and Strategic Leadership Team.

It is at the centre of the organisation and works closely with directors and Mayor's office to support the executive leadership of the organisation and its relationships with a range of stakeholders - including our council partners, local enterprise partnerships, and central Government.

We also support the authority's activity on inclusion and led the development of the Young Combined Authority, and other programmes and initiatives.

Everything we do is focused on making life better for people in the West Midlands - that's our reason for being here and it drives every move we make.

We lead, challenge, advise and support others to deliver our shared future vision for the region - a happier, healthier, better connected place to live and work.

About us

We work with our council partners to keep the region on the move, regenerate places with new homes and businesses and skill up our people so they can do the jobs we'll need to succeed in the future.

We use our role to speak up for and lead our region and bring people together to deliver across the towns and cities that make the West Midlands great.

We're ambitious, forward thinking and determined to find better ways of working, trusting and supporting each other to get the job done.

Our region needs and deserves our powerful voice - we understand what's needed here and how to change lives for the better.

Our work is already bringing big benefits in the way we keep people moving on our roads, rail and tram systems, the work we're doing to build homes on derelict sites to protect our precious green spaces, our innovative work on future transport systems and 5G and our plans to tackle the climate change emergency.

Everyone who works here plays their part in this success story and we're all determined to use our unique role to deliver lasting change across our region.

In return for your hard work and commitment, we will reward you with a range of competitive and attractive benefits.
