Full-Stack Web Developer - Work from home

What will you be doing?

There are two very innovative projects, both of which are a next-gen evolution in their markets:

  • A large-scale networking platform with a mobile app and modern web application, which has some interesting data analysis challenges which may involve machine learning.
  • A control system for some hardware we are designing, featuring embedded software and real-time comms, with web-based management.

As part of your involvement on these, you will be exposed to a range of languages and modern frameworks, so will have the opportunity to gain skills in new areas in addition to using ones you are already confident in.

Further to this, there will also be the opportunity to become involved in a range of other projects over time.

What Dotfive looks for in a senior developer

  • The ability and enthusiasm to pick up new languages, frameworks, and techniques, and participate in critical analysis and project architecture decisions
  • A true programmer, a software engineer who creates well-engineered, scalable, clean code, who can bring traditional programming knowledge and broad experience across a range of technologies
  • A polyglot with strong skills and focus in two (or more) tech stacks (i.e.

    two backend languages and two frontend frameworks), and working knowledge of more
  • Someone who can handle pure, vanilla code, without any libraries or frameworks, as well as having knowledge of modern techniques and being able to pick up new approaches quickly
  • A senior full-stack web developer with at least eight years of commercial experience
  • Highly proficient in core web development and software engineering skills, cross-discipline, and capable of working with a mix of technologies (we work with a variety of frameworks and database engines, and both web and non-web applications)
  • A strong grasp of programming theory and the ability to adapt knowledge to fit a given situation
  • Passionate about DRY principles and able to create robust, reusable code that can easily be extended and maintained

Key skills

You should be confident and competent in all of these, to a high level:

  • Backend: Javascript, Python, Rust, or PHP, plus one more (either one of these or another language) - e.g.

    JS and Python, Python and Go, etc.
  • Appropriate backend frameworks for the languages you use: e.g.

    Node, Express, Django, Flask, Laravel, etc.
  • Appropriate ORM, such as SQLAlchemy or similar
  • Writing specs and technical documentation
  • Frontend: Javascript (pure) and two or more of React, Vue, or Angular
  • MySQL, NoSQL
  • RESTful APIs, Swagger
  • TDD, BDD, testing frameworks
  • Unit testing tools
  • Git, Docker, CI/CD,command-line Linux
