Human Resources Manager

A part-time experienced Human Resources Manager is required for an expanding manufacturing business based in North Bristol.

We are looking for an experienced HR generalist who will flourish in a fast-moving, customer-focused environment and who will enjoy the challenge of leading our management team to promote a workplace culture that makes us the Employer of Choice within both our industry and the local job market. 

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

You will be managing the full HR remit for around 50 staff; supporting our managers to recruit, develop and retain the best people in our sector.

This includes:


  • Actively managing a robust recruitment process across the site whilst continuously monitoring and seeking to attract new recruitment opportunities.

    You will be working with Departmental Managers to ensure recruitment capacity is met with the right calibre of staff;
  • Responsibility for updating all job descriptions, contracts of employment and induction packages;
  • Actively implementing processes to identify, develop and retain talented individuals and promote effective succession planning;
  • Generating and implementing ideas that create an amazing team culture;
  • Working in collaboration with the leadership team to develop performance management skills in appraisals, mentoring, sourcing training options and team building;
  • Actively seeking funding opportunities for relevant training through grants and schemes for SME’s;
  • Supporting managers and team leaders in all employee relations issues, including disciplinary and grievance investigations, hearings, outcomes and absence management meetings;
  • Championing best practice in equality, diversity and inclusion;
  • Keeping Company HR procedures, policies and related documentation up to date and fit for purpose;
  • Development and maintenance of all HR systems, databases and records.

    Making managers accountable for updating and maintaining employee records;
  • Championing the use of our online Time & Attendance information system; ensuring control of staff documentation is maintained according to GDPR compliance;
  • Data tracking and measurement to report valuable information on key people processes to the Management Team;
  • Ensuring people understand our key people management processes, policies and procedures;
  • Encouraging two-way communication with team members and responding to feedback and suggestions positively;
  • Managing the internal payroll process and liaising with the external payroll provider as appropriate; first point of contact internally for payroll queries;
  • Delivery of HR projects to support business objectives.

What this position requires:


  • Experience of ultimate responsibility for HR issues within a business, preferably within a small to medium size business;
  • In-depth experience of dealing with employee relations, preferably within either a manufacturing or operational environment;
  • Experience in recruitment and the supporting of departments to ensure completion to a high standard;
  • Experience of delivering people management training to line managers;
  • Experience of supporting managers to find solutions and of developing collaborative and productive relationships with a wide variety of individuals;
  • Experience of reviewing and updating policies and procedures and a sound understanding of their practical application;
  • Resilience and self-motivation;
  • Great communication skills and the ability to adapt, depending on the audience.

Location: Yate, North Bristol

Hours: 20-25 hours per week over 5 days

Salary: £35 – 40,000 FTE, dependant on experience
