Fixed Term Contract
Hours of Work: 36.5 per week
Salary: £26,521-£31,021 per annum + exclusive benefits
Closes: 8th August 2021
Location: 16 Summer Lane, Birmingham, B19 3SD

The 2022 Commonwealth Games, held in Birmingham, will be the biggest sporting and cultural event that the city and the region have ever seen.

With an estimated television audience of 1.5 billion people, it will showcase Birmingham, the West Midlands, and the entire country as an amazing place to live, work, study, visit and do business.

When the Commonwealth Games start, the eyes of the world will be on the West Midlands, and so it is critical that visitors can travel around swiftly and efficiently whilst minimising the impact on residents.

With more than one million spectators expected over the eleven days, as well as competitors, volunteers, staff, and the world's media, we must get our transport offering just right - and this role will play an important part in making this happen.

Joining the team on a fixed-term basis until August 2022, this role will be responsible for assisting with the preparation, implementation, and audit of Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders, Temporary Traffic Regulation Notices, and Traffic Regulation Notices required for the Games Route Network (GRN) and local area traffic management and parking plans.

The role will contribute to collaboration with our partners and will assist in the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the GRN and the management of Games venue impact on our residents and businesses.

What will you be doing?

, Prepare, process, and audit traffic regulation notices and related statutory notices under relevant sections of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and the Games Act
, Ensure traffic regulation notices are consistent, accurate, legally robust and enforceable
, Provide professional advice to colleagues and transport partners on technical and statutory matters
, Maintain collaborative working relationships with Local Traffic and Highway Authorities and ensure good dialogue with designated Enforcement Officers
, Attend meetings as appropriate in respect of traffic regulation order matters associated with the Games
, Support the operational delivery of traffic regulation notices in line with traffic engineering and network management solutions at Games-time
, Assist with the preparation of informal consultation and publicity material relating to traffic regulation notices through TfWM, Local Traffic, and Highway Authority platforms
, Work with Local Traffic Authority partners to deliver robust temporary permit schemes

About you

The role will report to a Traffic Regulation Notice SME and so we don't need you to have any prior knowledge or experience in this area.

What's more important is that you have a genuine interest in transport planning and/or network management.

Perhaps preparing TRNs is a bolt-on to your day job or maybe you have recently completed studies in a transport-related subject and would like to add 'Commonwealth Games Transport Planning' to your CV.

Even if you don't match with everything here, but believe you have got what it takes to do this job, we want to hear from you.

, Excellent interpersonal skills, able to develop and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with all relevant local highway authorities, Highways England, and the Police Capable of working in a sensitive political environment, and the ability to manage stakeholders both internal and external
, Demonstrable ability to work as part of a fast-paced multi-agency team to maintain a safe and reliable highway network
, Some understanding of the legal requirements and processes for the regulation of traffic in the UK
, Some experience in the preparation, publication, and evaluation of Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders including statutory consultations would be hugely attractive, but not essential
