First Off Inspection Technician

Our client are a large Medical Device company located in Norfolk looking for a First Off Inspection Technician

Job purpose: To provide all functions with the required level of Metrology, including tool approval, tool repair, Production & Development support.

Key accountabilities
• Provide first off support to all areas as requested including Mould Tool / Component approval, cavity repair, IPC / CTF control and various Development Metrology / inspection requirements.
• Ability to develop the most suitable metrology strategy, liaising with the Design authority whilst challenging robustness, accuracy & repeatability.


• Assist with identifying emerging technologies together with operational and business requirements/needs in order to evaluate and propose technology platforms or approaches that will provide potential competitive advantage in the area.


• To support Mould Tool Approval & Development with the generation and evaluation of process capability data.
• To provide estimates on time lines for completing metrology activities and manage the completion of to agreed timelines.

Managing all request & reports via SAP Document management.
• Assist in generating plans and managing projects through to completion in line with customer requirements and departmental performance measures.
• Carry out FOIR for Tool approval trials of new and refurbished Mould tooling to required standards, timescales, cost and quality requirements.
• Develop effective communications with external, internal customers and suppliers.
• Provide Product support and development with reports, support & advice to required standards on time.
• Operating in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, departmental procedures, company policy and GMP
• To maintain written records and create detailed FOI reports via SAP DM.
• To carry out internal Calibration / Verification and maintain accurate records & non conformance reports.

Key attributes & competencies
This role requires the ability to read and understand technical drawings, a high level of attention to detail in recording data for decision making, good written and oral communication skills, and a customer orientated approach.
• NPL Level 2 as a minimum, Engineering / Inspection qualifications an advantage,
• Demonstrable experience in a high volume injection moulding environment, inspection or QA.
• CMM programming experience in Win Werth and / or Nikon, 2D & 3D an advantage.
• Experience with VG StudioMax an advantage.
• Knowledge of MiniTab statistics package an advantage.
• Knowledge of Calibration Methodology.
• Ability to use Word & Excel.
• Basic knowledge & use of CAD packages (Solid Works or UniGraphics) an advantage.


• Understanding of Gauge validation & R&r tests.
• Knowledge of Injection mould tooling and mould processing defects.
• Experience in SAP Document management & QM an advantage.
